The Guardian says; There are plenty of new writers good enough to knock Amis, Barnes, Ishiguro and McEwan off their perch - so why aren't we reading them?

Absolutely, but I do question the annexation of 'new' with 'young'. There are plenty of new (good) novelists out there who may be published for the first time in their 40s, 50s and beyond.
