Horror magazines never seem to last that long. Fear was around for a while then disappeared, and there was a great US one called Midnight Grafitti; both were quality mags. I haven't see interzone for a good few years. Glad to hear it's still going. I think I'll order a few copies; that was always a good magazine.
Does anyone remember "The Twilight Zone" magazine? Another US mag, but packed with superb fiction. It went pop in 1989, I never found out if it picked up again.

Just read the interview. It certainly sounds like they have high hopes. It would be great to have an annual anthology. Whatever happened to The Pan Book of Horror Stories? I loved them. I think the first book I ever bought was number eleven: the cover had a wedding cake, the bride and groom were skeletons, there was a knife in the cake with blood pouring out.
I wonder how much the anthology will be. If you buy in magazine form it costs £35.

Good point, Colin.
I wonder what the market is for an anthology? And 169 stories is one hell of a book! If the stories averaged only 1000 words each that’s 169,000 words… you’d need an HGV licence to get it home!
On balance though, I think I’d rather buy the book than collect the magazines. It’s more permanent… but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t pay £35 for it.

I remember the old scream comic too, which wasn't really anything to do with short stories, but also died a death. Let's hope this time it's different.

I hope it lasts until December, at least!

Hopefully one of the major (or not so minor) magazine publishers will get wind of it and help them take it to the next level. They're certainly getting lots of interest.

I loved Scream comic when I was a kid!
The Thirteenth Floor was an excellent story every week, and Monster, with creepy Uncle Terry was another favourite.

That should take you to a history of the comic, I believe they've also scanned in a couple of issues you could look at.
Oh, and "One Hell of a Battenberg" will also be appearing in the December issue of Thirteen Magazine. Though it's a slightly more developed version of the one that appears on this site.

That's great Ben. I also loved Scream comic, especially Doomlord, who used to appear in Eagle originally. Do you remember him? Funny looking bloke, pointy ears, used to point his ring a lot and say things like 'energise to disintegrate'...

Last night, having read this thread, I emailed my "Darkness" story to Thirteen and I am also in the December edition. Hurrah! Cann't wait to see myself in print.
Must go and have a celebratory drink.

Yay! Well done!

That's great crowspark.
Personally, and I don't mean this horribly, or to diminish anyone's achievement in getting published - I think it's a good thing - but Thirteen, well, are they just printing everything sent to them?
I think Colin was making comment about the mag before - he actually compared it to a school mag. I'm being a wet towel I know, and I don't mean it against anyone's stories - we know we're good writers, but, you know, it seems a little bit of a free for all to me now.

I have to agree, James.
I'm chuffed that they want to publish my short story but... I do wonder... have they rejected anything???

I just wonder if I can use their seeming lack of discernment as any kind of barometer for my writing. Somehow, it doesn't feel like such a great achievement anymore - is that wrong?
I hope I'm not upsetting anyone.
