Does anyone actually know 'Thirteen's' readership? Is it only subscribable over the internet, or does it appear in shops too?

As magazines go, it's basic. It is typeset, but not particularly well (or badly for that matter). It does not contain adverts, images or illustrations. It is printed in black ink on A4 paper, folded and stapled with a colour cover. The cover is light card, full colour, but looks to me as though it has come out of a colour printer/photocopier rather than lithograph, and the definition, as well as the quality is not good. There are no publishing details, no barcode, and no cover graphics other than the title and price. To be blunt, we are talking school magazine standard.

However, the quality of the written work is generally good so I won't be too hard on the Mag. I remember the early editions of Viz - they were pretty damn basic too.

As for the price: £3.50 a copy is far too steep for something of this quality. When I got my copy I couldn't help feeling a little cheated.

Still, magazines have to start somewhere, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and stick with the mag for now.

James, at the moment it’s mail order only but, according to their interview, they’re hoping to have the magazine available in the shops from next January.

I’ve just seen Colin’s message... presumably they plan to improve the quality by then!

Well, it's still a start, as they say.

I've been sending stuff off to interzone and thrid alternative, because I'm impressed by the quality of those mags. Thirteen is in its fledgling state, it seems, so hopefully, it'll grow into a monster, if you'll pardon the pun.

We need a decent horror mag here in the UK.
