  • Getting published abroad

    Hello!

I have recently had an enquiry from a publisher in the US, they are interested, at this stage, in publishing something I have written.

Firstly, can I say, I am not a writer! and have absolutely no experience in the literary field. I had written around 30,000 words as therapy for myself.

I am a british man (38), but currently living in Spain. Obviously, apart from the geographical aspect, are there any differences or problems with publishing abroad?

A part of me wants to "go with the flow" but another part of me is terrified!

As this has happened out of the blue, I have tried to inform myself, by way of the internet, but I must say, it's a bit of a minefield!

    Any pointers appreciated,

    JW

JW, how exciting but yes, I can see why it might all appear rather daunting.

You could get in touch with the Society of Authors. They probably wouldn't be able to advise on the detail of a contract as they could with a UK one, but they have a lot of members who aren't writers in the sense that you also say you're not a writer, and I'm sure they have experience of this kind of issue. There's a US equivalent of them, too, but I'm not sure who they are. The main thing, I would suggest, is not to sign anything until you've had it all explained to you and you're sure you know what's involved.
