Just read yours, Gillian - love the line "The president felt she should stay put."

November 9, 2009 will be my 33rd birthday - old or what?

Oh, no, actually, 34th - see, I'm going senile already.

    That's freaky Caroline
I picked my dates carefully - not sure how I arrived at that one! lol

I must applaud Emma and Snowbooks here but there has to be something ironic or, at the very least, arse-facingly circular, about a publisher showcasing talent so that agents can take a look, maybe express an interest and then offer representation...to a publisher...etc.

I think Emma says on the blog that it's because Snowbooks is such a small publisher - they can't publish everything they receive, but equally, they recognise that there's a lot of high-quality stuff out there that others might be interested in. It's a genuine way of helping writers to get noticed.

Score another one for WW - currently snowcasing at number 25! Seems weird reading your own stuff on someone else's site...

I'm sure that's true (though I do appreciate the irony!) I think if you asked any editor in any publisher, big or small, they'd say there were books they'd love to publish if only they could make the schedule and/or the sums add up. On the other hand, there aren't as many books like that as some aspiring writers think.

Just a quick update on this thread. I am in at #31 with a bullet and a request for more! This forum is just great.

Bit late to mention, but my effort is Snowcase #21, which can still be found with a bit of clicking and scrolling.

Emma Barnes requested the full ms almost immediately, but subsequently had a 'thanks but no thanks' email a couple of weeks later. Still, this is the first time anyone at the sharp end of publishing has actually asked me to send my work to them. One small step..., and all that.

Couple of side-effects of having Snowbooks/Snowblog highlighted:
    (1) Now looking at sending to other outfits similar to Snowbooks. Previously, was only sending
    to agents.
    (2) After seeing Snowbooks MySpace page, I've registered one for my work and have put a few
excerpts up. I'm sure no-one's ever got a publishing deal out of a MySpace page, but at
least it gives me the illusion of doing something other than putting envelopes in the
post. Have collected a few interesting MySpace friends as well so far.

    Thanks for highlighting Snowcase, Dee.
I'm sure I wouldn't have stumbled on it otherwise.

Good luck with yours, Keith! Let us know how you get on.

I've found the Snowcase pretty worthwhile over all. Like you, Andy, my full was rejected by Em, but it has given me confidence that at least I have managed to write 500 good words, even if the rest is shite.

The best thing about it has been that I was contacted by an agent. Although she ultimately rejected it, she did make some positive comments about my writing, and some helpful suggestions. Even the tiniest snippet of feedback is so welcome in this game - it's all part of blindly trying to piece together what might be OK and what might be wrong.

And another advantage is that it got the Snowbooks rejection out of the way - I'd been holding off submitting to them because I would have loved them to publish my book and was scared of them hating it. But now it's happened and it's over with, so I don't have to dread it any more and can move on!

Good for you Caro. Seems like you're had some worthwhile feedback and confidence boosting which is always a big plus in this business!

Caro, that's great that you got contacted by an agent, and some useful feedback, from being 'snowcased'.

And, oo-er, my birthday's 9 November, too! (Though I'm about 50 years older than you.) Doesn't it irritate you that, just because Americans say their dates backwards, '9/11' has become a byword for something horrible?

Yeah, I always say 9th November rather than 9/11 now, otherwise people pause a moment.

Aha! Maybe that's why Gillian chose the date. I get it!

Ah, the stench of disappointment hangs in the air of Hope St.. Full MS rejected by Anna at Snowbooks. Never mind, it's been a blast seeing my stuff on someone elses website and with a compliment attached too! No feedback as to why the rejection but i have come to expect that. Back to that coalface then.
