  • Publishing and Pen names.... Advise Pls
    by treacy73 at 16:24 on 26 March 2007
Sorry I think I posted the first topic in wrong forum. Rewritten here.

I need a little help here here please.

I love to write Romantic, Mystery and Kids fiction. Also Poetry and some non-fiction. However this is confusing when it comes to Publishing, because if i publish my name as a Child fiction write, I'm expected to write only child Fiction. And the same goes for any other fiction or non-fiction.

So what the best way to go about this? Some say it helps to have Pen names, a pen name for each writing and to inform Publisher about this.

What do you think? Any advise would be welcomed please.

    xx Treacy

Oh, to have that problem, Treacy
Are you already published in one or more genre? Or are you at the submission stage?
Submissions are directed at agents who specialize in that genre, so basically you would have a different agent (and different publishers) for each type of work.
It is probably best to ask your Agents whether or not you need a pen name to keep your work, and your readerships, seperate. They may well say yes.

Some agencies specialise in numerous kinds of writing, with different agents splitting the genres up between them- might be good to approach a larger agency that does this so that even if you do have different agents working for you, they know each other and can commnunicate about you easily.

I can think of a couple of writers who do childrens and adults literature under the same name - I don't think it matters too much? Anne Fine? The man who does the Ladies Detective Agency novels? Roald Dahl, when he was alive?
