Malcolm, you're welcome. I nearly pointed you to this thread on yours, but clicked 'post' and forgot to.

Have you joined the Society? That meeting was open to non-members, but a lot of the best ones aren't. They're also great networking opportunities - as I only touched on, there is lots and lots of experience to draw on which I couldn't really detail here, because members have done so many different things, publishing, self publishing, there was an author who also ran PR campaigns for other things... The members section of the site has message boards too, though they're fairly new and I don't know if they've built up much of a head of steam yet.

Do get hold of the Alison Baverstock book too - she's very good and practical.

I'd have thought you've got more avenues to exploit than most fiction writers, given your vet background - I was serious about 'deep sea diver writes novel'

Good luck with it! Make the most of the Terry Wogan connection too.

    Emma

Just adding here that since this thread started, there's another good book out about publicising yourself as an author: Jane Wenham Jones's Wannabe an Author We've Heard Of.

Emma, this thread is really useful. Thank you for posting.

Helen's rule is a good one - one plug a day. I try to do that for the book, and for the festival I'm running.

Got local radio interview today for both.

This is so useful Emma - you are brilliant, and as Roger says, where do you find the time? Thank you so much.
