I've a novel called 'Pets in Prospect' based on my experiences as a vet being published by Robert Hale. It's being 'hailed' as the new James Herriot. As a first time novelist it's really exciting to see that Amazon.co.uk has already got three glowing reviews with one saying 'I haven't read such a funny book of animal stories since the days of James Herriot....would make a good TV series. A delightful book. More please.' And another states 'an excellent choice for the Christmas stocking' - appropriate as a Rottweiler swallows one in the last chapter. And as the icing on the cake,Askews Library Services Top 20 List for Dec's Pre-Pub Autobiographies has the book at No 8. Thanks to all who are giving it such great support. And yes,I am writing a sequel.
Congratulations, MW.
I read all the James Herriot books, and loads more vets books besides.
From doing the school library I've found that girls love books on horses (most popular) and kittens. Boys like dog stories. So you might consider aiming one of the sequals at the children's market.
Thanks Naomi. A school librarian friend of mine has said 'Pets in Prospect' should make a great teenage read as well since some of the stories involve kids and their pets - the opening chapter with stroppy Darren and his hamster for one. Hope you manage to get round to reading the book some day and let me have your views on it.
All best wishes,
Malcolm
