Can anyone give any examples of novels in which there is no or very little dialogue?

John Banville's 'The Sea' and Colm Toibin's 'The Master' are two that spring to mind. I bet there are a lot more, though. I'll have a think.

I know there's a copy of The Sea knocking around here somewhere so I'll have a look at that.

Just thinking this question over what I'm really looking for is books with little or no dialogue written in the first person.

Cormac MacCarthy's books: Blood Meridian, All the Pretty Horses, etc. they're amazing.

Beckett's trilogy is a good example - Malone Dies, Molloy and the Unnameable

Interesting thread Been a little while since I've read it, so I may be recalling it wrong, but as far as I remember Yukio Mishima's brilliant and unsettling 'The Temple of the Golden Pavilion' has very little dialogue. The world and text are s very tied to the warped and disintegrating POV/personality of the narrator...

As I recall, there wasn't much dialogue in Life of Pi by Yan Martel.

True. I'm sure he didn't mean me to, though, but I did keep expecting the tiger to speak. Sign of spending too much of my youth with Winnie the Pooh, perhaps.
