I've just woken from the usual two hour nap after a massive dinner, and managed to sneak online. I've just been thinking about New Year's resolutions, and mine are as follows:

    1) To quit smoking entirely. I've more or less quit anyway - now I have to stop it socially i/e drinking. so I'm...

2)...going to drink a lot less. And...

3)...continue my diet, get in the best shape I've ever been in, then...

4)...focus on my spiritual growth. I want to become more tolerant, and happier.

As far as writing goes, I want to knock out a novel a year. I hope to scatter out a handful of new short stories, finish my screenplay/novel Dracula On Mars, and begin the TA sequel.

I also hope to clinch a book deal for TA, and mentally prepare myself for the release of my first novel - Unrequited in the US in early '07.

This is more of a Christmas resolution - to finish the final draft of the novel, ready for the hordes of eager agents sure to beg sight of it (sigh), leaving me ready to explore new ideas in the the New Year.

And in the New Year - to smoke alot less (particularly while I write). Given up on the idea of giving up altogether, realised we all have a vice and I don't drink, eat crap or do drugs, so as long as I keep it within only-mildly-dangerous limits that'll do me.

I usually never make resolutions, but this time I seem to have a few goals that fit into the ‘must do next year’ time frame.

Finish the rewrite of “Standing at the end of the world” as quickly as possible.

Get “Standing at the end of the world” accepted by an agent.

Start serious preparations to run my first marathon.

Compliments of the season to you all.

Nice thread. Yes, to write my first radio play- or rather, to sell it. I've worked in most other media and this is one I really, really want to crack. Half way through now, so hopefully this is one NY res I might actually keep.

I have resolved never to make any New Year or other type of Resolutions.

I just do and say what I think is right at the time.

Yeah, that was my last year's resolution, but here I am again...

I rarely make resolutions at New Year. It seems to me that if you want to do something worthwhile then a particular date in the calendar shouldn't influence the decision to do it. However...

After a flurry of activity shortly after I joined, my writing and contribution to this site has gone seriously downhill. I've spent God knows how many years saying that I wanted to be a writer and too many of them doing bugger all about it. So, although I'll stand by the concept that it's not a 'New Year' resolution, I intend to finally get my nose down onto the grindstone. And I'm going to start on the 1st

Mine is to get myself off this chair and go and do walking in the afternoon's no matter how bad the weather, to continue swimming, and not be chicken about it when it's cold, to get my just finished novel out there in the world and be as persistant as a wasp round jam about it. Alongside those get the rough bits of my house sorted in preparation for moving to Bristol in the summer.

My New Year's writing resolutions are:

Write in a completely new genre (Sci-Fi).
Write 1000 words of a novel every day.
Write 1000 words of a short story every day.
Submit a short story for publication every week.

    Well you gotta aim high.

    Best,

    Shit, it's 2006!!

okay, resolution time... erm. Well, I've got a hangover, so let's start there. I'm gonna give up the booze... and the one night stands, then settle down in some quiet little town and forget about everything.

    (shounds shomewhat familiar)
