What is the first thing that comes to mind regarding the above word? I am not British and I am quite interested in what the word bings to anyone British on this forum.
"Yellow" was the first thing that came to my mind, because of the song ('they call it mellow yellow ...)
And then hippies and the 60s. I think it's a very 60s word - I haven't heard anyone use it for a long time. So 'mellow', to me: "Hey, groovy, man ... "
For mellow I think of coffee too - but very strong, with lots of milk.
A flavour/colour/sound/smell which isn't weak at all, but isn't astringent or sharp - soft but not at all feeble, if you like. A certain kind of alto or baritone voice, yellow with a good deal of red or cream in it...
Catkin, my memories of British tv advertising are pre-2005, but still haunt me. Is Pepsodent still in the shops? (you'll wonder where the yellow went? - yellow - mellow).
Suggestive Digestive biscuits? (mellow colour)
Guinness? That lovely mellow Irish brew I can't get any more. Excuse me while I shed a tear.
