    Okay, everyone's my writing buddy!!

Now what do I need to do?

    Oh yeah.

    Get on with it.

I've added everyone as my buddy now, but only some show up on my page. Anyone know why that is?

I've had two days with zero word count, so have some catching up to do.

    Hi Sidewinder,

I've just added the people who've commented here since I last looked, and now not everyone shows on my page either. I don't know why! It's annoying. I want to see everyone I friended to know how they're getting on. Is there a limit to how many friends you can have?

BTW I have now reached 12,000 words and feel as if I'm running out of plot. It all was going so well! In the past, when writing more slowly, I think of plenty of ideas in between writing stints so I never run out... but this "getting on with it" thing means I'm running out...

    Help! What do I do???

Plough on! Have you seen today's pep talk from Gail Carson Levine? She says this:

When I run out of plot ideas, write about setting and what each character is wearing, in exquisite wordy detail. When I run out of setting and apparel, write about the voice quality of each speaker, speech mannerisms, facial ticks, body language.

    Good luck

Thanks Dee. Trouble is, I actually want this novel to be a worthwhile first draft, not just 50,000 words of anything... I'm not saying that those details can't add... just that I'd rather add them later when editing rather than go overboard right now for the sake of word count!

I think I need to throw new obstacles in their paths....

How are you getting on with NaNo this year?

I'm doing ok. Got to about 13,500 now, and very aware of the huge amount of story still to be written. About an hour ago I was floundering as to how to get to it from where I am now, so I fell back on what I quoted to you. I started writing in detail about the building that's at the centre of the story, and suddenly a whole new raft of potential threads appeared. So give it a try!

Thanks. Good idea. So basically, go off on a bit of a background tangent and see where it takes the imagination for the original story thread.

We're pretty much level pegging, then.

    Good luck ongoingly!
