Anyone doing NaNoWriMo next month?
I'm considering it. It's a few years since I last took thep lunge, and it's probably high time I stopped being so lazy and procrastinating (which ever comes first) and get down to some serious (and not so serious) writing.

For those who haven't heard of it before, it's organised out of the US but over the years has gained an international following.
The aim is to write as much as you can in one month, and then post your totals.
There's advice and support groups on the website, and you can set up your own page and post daily word counts and even upload extracts. (Personally, I love the cartoons).

Finishing an existing book is v frowned on at Nano. Get that detective out of your system. The world needs another light hearted detective series. I'd read it.

Last year I said I’d do it this year as, being retired, I’d have no excuse, but it’s a bit like the elephant in the distance – the closer it gets the bigger it looks - and I'm SO busy these days!

Yes, I think the NaNo idea that you write something fresh is absolutely right: the whole point is that it's something which doesn't matter, which has nothing riding on it, which can go in any direction it feels like going in.

But I realise that I do actually do rather more than the NaNo daily count anyway. I've got my own personal NaNo deadline anyway, in that if I can get a draft of the current beast to my agent by 15th Dec, then she'll read it while she's away for Christmas. I shall then be extinguished under a pile of OU marking until mid January.

How exciting everyone's project seems - go on Dee, you know you want to! (Though I know what you mean about being retired - seems to take all interesting people that way.)

Well blow me… I went to have a look on the NNWM site, and my brain went all fuzzy. When it cleared, I found I had signed up… how could that have happened?
On a slightly more serious note – I’ve been out in the fiction wilderness for more than a year now, and this might just be the thing to scare away the gremlins.
I can’t be the only writer in this situation, and the non-judgemental, give-it-a-go, to-hell-with-the-inner-critic ethos of NNWM could be what we all need right now.
