Can anyone recommend any good sources for UK police procedure research? I have a police detective in my book whose role is being enlarged and I'm looking for some guidelines about his job, responsibilities etc.

Can I recommend getting arrested?

There's a whole series of manuals - Blackwoods? Someone on WW knows, but I can never remember.

Thanks folks. I have managed to contact a couple of serving police officers on another site so that's helped a lot.

For anyone else looking for procedural information I was told about these two books:

The Crime Writer's Guide to Police Practice and Procedure by Michael O'Byrne

and:

Howdunit Police Procedure & Investigation: A Guide for Writers by Lee Lofland (although PLEASE NOTE this is the American system, not British)
