Got a new idea for a possible story, but not sure what kind of genre it would fall into. It's sort of a similar tone to Watchmen (the comic), so I guess that would count as Science-Fiction--or would it? Obviously, it's not going to be written LIKE a comic book, but I've taken elements of that kind of genre (the idea is a kind of superheroes fused with pro-wrestling type fixed matches).
Any help? Would this be science fiction or another genre.

It could be sci-fi or it could cross over into main-stream fiction.

Yeah, I guess superhero stories are probably more mainstream than they were a few years ago (thanks to the X-Men and Spiderman films). So I could aim it at that market. Thing is, I've kinda gone for a 'Pro-Wrestling' theme as well, because in this novel, the superhero and villain fights are all choreographed (like wrestling) but everyone thinks it's real (not like wrestling. I think we all know that it's fixed). Maybe I should write it first and see how it goes.
Thing is, is comic based fiction that popular in the mainstream book market? I can't tell if this is gonna be mainstream or whether it might be one of those 'self-publishing' kinda routes.

Daniel, I mean this in the nicest possible way, but I think you need to catch up a little more with what's going on in the SF/Fantasy genre. In fact, there are quite a lot of super-hero related novels and short story cyles around at the moment. On Escape Pod alone, there is the continuing Union Dues series and a recent story by Tim Pratt, based around super-heroes; Mur Lafferty's first novel was super-hero based. How to catch up? Well, there are lots of SF/Fantasy short story magazines/podcasts that are free to read/download (Clarkesworld, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Escape Pod, Starship Sofa, Strange Horizons - to name just a few). Also, subscribe to Locus or at least check its online version - a great way to find out what's in print or on the way. Subscribe to the many free SF email info systems.

Yeah, I guess I am a little behind in the sci-fi area. Thanks for that Terry. I'll look into it.
