Hi guys
There's already a number of groups/evenings in London where you can read out poems that you've written and get other's critiques.
I however find myself in a very strange position. Most of my life, writing came very naturally to me. It was there, and so I wrote it down.
However, for a while now (not sure why), I'm finding it much harder to do. Hopefully it's just a 'dry' patch, and not something to worry about longterm.
But, I'm sure I'm NOT the only one.
So, what I thought would be useful is to get a group together that meet up regularly to do a variety of 'exercises' to get the creative juices flowing again.
I have a few suggestions for this myself. For example, we could say pick out a word from a hat or look at an object that someone's brought in, brainstorm as a group and then individually write a timed poem in 3 minutes.
We could also do something similar with say a news story, a theme, a topic, specific incident, some piece of reading/film we’d set ourselves to read/watch, etc, etc. And then read out what we've all written and get feedback.
Depending on how many people attend on any given evening, it may be possible for us to write say 3 poems each. And anyone who wants to can 'polish' there’s up to read the improved versions at the start of the next meeting.
So, if you live in London, and would be interested in taking part in this say once every 2-3 weeks, then please let me know. I'll then look for a venue based on how many of you are keen to do this.
And of course if you have any suggestions for other exercises we can do, then I'd love to hear from you.
Really looking forward to hearing from you guys.
All the best
Jib
