Normally between around 10am and 1pm. Then my brain runs out of energy.

Have to write between 9 and 3 as that's when kids are at school. Useless in the evening. My brain clocks off at about 9pm and I rarely finish family stuff before then. Can't write when drunk at all. Tried once when lots of people said how liberating it was, but just sat glazed at computer feeling morose and thick. Even one glass stops the flow. Got to havea very clear head. Best work's in the mornings, like Deb but having a limited time slot helps productivity I find. Champing at the bit to get it done before kids are off school.

I sometimes fantasise about what it would be like writing without a full-time job and young kids. But as it is, the what-time-of-day-is-best question doesn't really arise. You write when you can!
I used to do this too. Now I have neither a full-time job nor young kids. I just have other things that get in the way. or rather, that I let get in the way!

Mornings work for me. I often have an 11 - 7 pm shift at work. If I get up at 7 a.m. I can get a good deal of writing done before having to leave for work.

I write late at night, from about 11pm to 4 or 5 am. I am pretty flexible though and also like writing in the days and afternoon. As long as I can't hear a pin drop and immerse myself completely in the art, I'm fine. Problem is, city centre life isn't really all that workable for more intense projects.

When I first started writing I had to fit it in in the evening and so I tend to gravitate towards working then. If everyone else is watching the telly I don't feel so guilty doing my own thing. There is no school right now though and I've only worked part time since Christmas (I home school my daughter) so I should have sooooo much time. Could someone tell me where it's hiding please?
I don't drink so I have no idea what that would do to my writing but I do know that if I am feeling under the weather I steer clear of writing anything because it always, without fail, stinks!
Take care

Write between 5am and 7.30 six times a week, as that's unfortunately the only time I've got available to do it in. I let myself off on Saturday morning, however, which usually means a few drinks on Friday night.
Don't find drinking and writing mix too well, but sometimes get interesting ideas while hungover - there's something about all that stale alcohol trying to work its way out of the body that seems to blur the division between the conscious and unconscious mind and let some of the weird stuff that the brain usually keeps under wraps right up to the surface. A museum exhibition of stuffed Edwardian butlers was the last idea that came that way.

evening is the time i write. although im usually very tired by then, but i try my best.

I usually get up an hour or so before my wife - that's the best - no one to suggest I fix the tap.
