So, the US and German courts have outlawed the resale of digital books by purchasers, which is great for writers and publishers (have no idea what 'nixes' means, but I can guess):

I'm not sure where the UK stands on this. Has there been a a challenge in the High Courts yet?
<Added>Rereading, the US decision related to digital music files as I've just spotted this:
"It's unclear how the Bielefeld decision will affect plans for the online ReDigi store to buy and sell pre-owned digital music, which is slated to launch in the EU this summer. The company is moving forward with a used e-book marketplace in the U.S. using ReDigi 2.0."
