    Can you mention song titles in a book without having to get a copyright?

    Not using the lyrics just the referring to the song

    Titles of any kind can't be copyrighted, so you don't need to get permission and should be fine. If in doubt give the Society of Authors a ring.

    Hi Emma,

    Thank you for your reply. Just to be clear, I mention in the book that “XYZ” song comes on the radio and use the song title. I have mentioned a few song titles throughout the book which refers to that music being played to the characters as they are driving.

    PS I read your blog yesterday, because my question was referring to how far you can or should go with sexual scenes in a book, thanks for your advise there in your blog ;o) perhaps you could give my scenes a read sometime and see if there are bad or good, couldn’t possibly post them on here though lol
