Hello all

After much prevarication I've decided to upload the beginning of a self-contained story that I've been nursing for a while. A good friend had been on at me to write something for, well for ever really, and finally issued a challenge "Write a story about a woman who travels from Clapham South to Balham and experiences a transformation" - Running Downstream was my response.

The story is difficult to describe in genre terms. There are elements of chick-lit, magical realism and good old ghost story about it, but if I was honest I'd have to say that I just hope there are some engaging characters, some decent jokes and a satisfying overall shape to the thing - I'm new to this game afterall.

This chunk is rather large, which is self indulgent of me but helps to establish the structure and the backwards and forwards time-shift that allows two parralel threads of narrative. I hope you can bear with this. If there is interest I am happy to follow up with further (smaller) episodes. It goes to 20,000 words all up.
