I'm a new member and have done a bit of browsing on the site - which is fantastic, I don't have enough time to spend on it! - and have finally summoned the courage to upload a piece of work. Not sure if I should have put this in a group forum (its a long short story)? In any case, would greatly appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Hi Moonshoe,
Just had a quick look, but at 6000 words, it's rather too long to take the time to read and then comment on.
Most people usually upload about 2000 words at a time, as that seems to be about the right amount for people to read through then go back over highlighting bits to comment on if necessary.
Welcome btw.

Hi Katerina,
Firstly, thanks for giving me my first WW feedback! Yes, point taken, I will edit this and re-post in a more manageable chunk. Cheers, Karen

I was going to say the same thing, but wasn't sure the tolerance afforded by my 'newbie' status would stretch to me saying so.
Where does the handle Moonshoe come from, anyway? You know something about Neil Armstrong's spaceboots you're not saying?
-
hmm yes i think i was overestimating the enthusiasm of even the most energetic WW members! I'm onto it.
Moonshoe is the handle of an indulgent mummy of two little 'uns, whose first words were "shoe" and "moon" respectively (no prizes for guessing which one is the girl). Sorry Neil.

Moonshoe, welcome to WW.
Have you come across the Joan Aiken story 'The Moon's Revenge'? Lots of shoes in there, as well as the obvious moon. It's a long children's picture book, which probably breaks all the rules, but then you can if you're one of the greatest storytellers of the twentieth century.

HiEmma,
Thanks for the welcome. No I haven't but I shall check it out, I am always interested in successful rule-breaking!
Nice to talk to you again, I met you at Review at one of your book signings - did you enjoy Brisbane?

Hi, Karen, nice to hear from you. It was a good do at Review, I thought.
Brisbane was great, though my feet hardly touched the ground - a combination of their working me incredibly hard, and my having a publicist at my elbow so I never had to work out how to find my way anywhere or buy so much as a cup of coffee. Sounds luxurious and is actually strangely disempowering. Managed one afternoon in the museum in Auckland, and again in Brisbane and that was it as far as seeing the sights of the Antipodes went, alas.
