'if you’re not dancing by this point, you don’t deserve legs. '

    Fabulous.
And a gorgeous review of a snidey-reviewed CD. Loving your review, loving the CD.

Really enjoyed reading this review, particularly as I'm loving the album at the moment! I thought 'Even the clunky lyric is ironic and knowing' was an interesting point. As much as I am a fan of Madonna, I would have to confess that sometimes lyrically she is less than amazing, so it's interesting that you found this added to the impact of the song. Still, when she produces such fantastic pop, I can forgive her the odd dodgy rhyming couplet!

    Thanks.

I wrote the comment from the perspective that Madonna is critisised for her bad lyrics all the time. Her ryhming of 'York' with 'Dork' was surely a self-effacing moment? She isn't stupid. I often notice that people don't get the irony in Madonna's music - I don't even think that way to be an apologist for some pretty trashy stuff. But she's no dummmy. She often laughs at herself and then laughs when the press don't get it. 'Dork' is a prime example of that. When questioned in a recent interview about it, her wry smile said it all.

With that in mind, listen to that song again and hear how she sings 'dork'. It's obviously comic and ironic, in my opinion.
