  • The Image Of The Fifth Daughter

I've just uploaded the first chapter of a new novel I've started working on. It’s a sequel to The Winter House, and it’s still in the very early stages.

I've never attempted a sequel before. The difficulty is finding a balance between saying too much and leaving too much out.
So I'd really really appreciate feedback. Does it work for those who’ve read TWH and also for those who haven’t?

    Cheers

    Hi Dee

I'll go and check this out. You removed the end of TWH before I had a chance to get round to it! Anyway, the story and characters are really memorable everyone, so I'd reccomend you give it a whirl whether you've read the prequel or not!

I will also be soon working on my first sequel. Having been raised on them (from Star Wars to Lord of The Rings) I'm sure it won't be that bad.

I've just uploaded the rewritten version of chapter one. It’s still very much first-draft but I'm at the stage were I can’t see it properly. I found I couldn’t remove any of the names because this chapter is setting up so many threads. And, just to confuse those of you who read the first version, Evie has changed her name to Stephanie – the toddler Rhia refers to, who was born in The Winter House, is called Ellie, so I decided the two names would be too confusing.

I'd appreciate any comments you care to make. In the spirit of recent discussion, when I say I can take it, I really mean I can take it!

I've just edited this chapter yet again. Main change is converting the narrative about the hotel into a conversation between Luke and Rhia.

If anyone has the stamina to read it again it would be much appreciated - but I fully understand if you can't face another round!
