Dear Mad Deb,
We are delighted to inform you that your play is one of the eleven selected plays for the shortlist of the 2003 International Playwriting Festival.
Over five hund red plays were submitted this year, so congratulations on your achievement.
All the short-listed plays will now be read by the judging panel and discussed at a meeting on Tuesday 14 October where adecision will be made on wh ich plays shall be showcased.
A national press reception announcing the results will be held on Wednesday 22 October with the staging of the selected plays taking place on
Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 November. The rehearsals will take place two or three days before.
Should your play be successful, you will be requested to attend the national press reception, and of course, the rehearsals and reading of your play. In this instance, I will telephone you to discuss how we proceed.
Once again, congratulations on reaching the shortlist -and good luck!

Hmmm. This confused me, because I interpreted the title to mean "some guy called Beem, that IB has never heard of, has been shortlisted for wah wah wah wah".

If it indeed does mean that you have been shortlisted for something, my most heartfelt congratulations to you! Excellent achievement.

Yep- well done Davide. The IPFestival, run by/through Croydon Warehouse Theatre, is a well respected competition and several previous winners/runners up have gone on to have successful playwriting careers. The warehouse is a good place to have new work on- been there myself with a play years ago and although it's an oddly mixed audience, it's an interesting venue.
