Well I call it a short, it's pretty much the longest piece I've uploaded - certainly recently, as I've been bitten by the flash bug.

It's just under 4000 words long, and as I'm a little out of practice with the longer pieces I'd be interested to know how you think it holds together - especially given there's a pretty major shift in focus in the middle.
