Nell, this is the one to which you were referring -

    http://www.britannia.com/history/legend/yorkghosts/yorkgt05.html

'One morning in 1953, an apprentice plumber, named Harry Martindale, was installing a new central heating system in the cellars of the Treasurer's House (York) when he heard the distinctive sound of a distant horn. He thought it strange that the sound should reach him so far underground, but carried on working up his ladder. The horn continued to sound, each time appearing a little closer.'

Mike - Thanks for that alert! Am looking forward to seeing the Stone Tape - it will be like a time warp in itself!
I remember kicking myself because I only saw the last half when it was on first time in 1972 - so I'll be kicking myself again if I miss it 31 years later.

That was in The Treasurers House in York, if my information is correct.
I was born and brought up in Northumberland, where my bus to school took me past the remains of Hadrian's Wall every day. There are well documented, and confirmed, stories of marching Roman soldiers appearing at random, but only seen from the knees up, as if they were on a ground level lower than the observers.
I interpret that as evidence that the ghosts of the Romans are existing at their own level.
Alternatively - I could be bonkers.

    Cheers,
    Dee.

Apologies Dee - We were - as is the nature of all things weird and wonderful - uploading the same information at the same time - that's synchronicity for you.

Don't know if anyone followed up the Remote Viewing link but one of the interesting links from there, was 'the Manual' that is now published on line - at

ps Dee - I don't think you are bonkers!

Dee, I'm positive you're not bonkers - I love all this stuff, it makes life so wonderfully mysterious and exciting, and it's all part of The Ultimate Mystery.

And thanks Andrew for the link - I'm off to have a look now.

    Uh-oh!
Information overload. Brain will shut down in... three... two... min... blerg... blerg... blerg...

Sorry, Andrew, can you explain it to me in English?

    Love,
    Brain-dead Dee.

OK in my own words (now don't tell me off for going off target) to answer your question

    - Remote Viewing (RV)
a technique that was used (and may still be for all we know) by US, Russian Military Spies and others to spy on remote installations and terrain.

It involves selecting people who are particularly 'sensitive' and training them further through certain techniques to remotely travel (in mind only) to selected designations for the purposes of spying.

It is classed as an 'OBE' (Out of Body Experience) - along with other OBE's such as Astral Projection.

To be able to travel in time either backward or forward in one’s mind, is related to RV and is basically to Clairvoyance.

    Hope this helps Dee

As another aside– please forgive my indulgence - may I add a note with regard to Forums - It may be perceived by some that a topic might not be directly related to the inspiration (ie in this case from your original timeghost story ‘Down Our Street’) – however my own viewpoint (one not shared by all) is that Forums allow us to let our imaginations meander and find other inspiration for thoughts, which may lie lurking in strange side alleys.

Once a thread is developed sufficiently strongly, with enough interest - like a tendril growing – it may then form the basis of another Forum. The author of the Forum has the unspoken right to guide the topic – and suggest to participants that any sub topic should be developed elsewhere. (as nicely as possible) The basic principle seems to be, Forums are organic and open-ended - unless the author suggests otherwise or guides them back on to a specific topic.

I would hesitate to suggest ‘a Forum on Forums’ ! lol (just a joke honest)

Thank you Dee for allowing me to get that off my chest - I feel better for that.

    Dee,
Rocks and stones recording people and events is exactly the idea behing The Stone Tape. The kind of 'seeing' of persons that you describe is something which is written about with great skill and style, and belief, by Algernon Blackwood, the 'Starlight Man'.

    Best,

    Mike

Inspiration to write the Icera Stone came from the thought that through the influence of morphic resonance on the field pattern matrix of a crystal, it could become a vehicle for the transfer of the consciousness of a Celtic Priestess to today - triggered by the coincidences of space and time - Not a dissimilar idea to the Stone Tape, so, it is likely to be one of the early influences for the idea - I guess.

So, did any one watch The Stone Tape? I thought, with the exception of a bit too much 'shouty' acting on the part of Michael Bryant, it stood up remarkably well, both as a spook story and as a play of ideas. I'd forgotten the ending, where it wonderfully plunges into almost Lovecraft-like territory; adrift in the dark and backward abysm of time and space. Lovely touches of humour, too. I certainly made sure the lights were on as I went to bed!

    Best,

    Mike

And I couldn't seem to find it on Channel 4. There was something called The Kneal Tapes on another channel at 10.30, but I was too tired to stay up. Maybe it'll be on again...

Hello Dee.. I enjoyed reading Down this Street.. now this looks like an interesting forum.. and I don't think you are at all bonkers.. it's actually quite comforting to find a bunch of people ( i notice not of dissimilar era) who are tuned into these thoughts, wavelengths..and ideas..or maybe just feelings. I too have seen a ghost of a woman just sitting in a chair.. who vanished.. and have felt presences on numerous occasions.. all very fascinating..energy is , as Mike says, what it's all about.. and if we put out thoughts we are putting out energy..and I am sure concentrations of energy can manifest into things we see.. oh don't get me started!

    Ellie...

Oh. Ellie, do start - please!
I lap up stuff like this and would love to hear about your woman in the chair.
The sad fact, though, about supernatural fiction, is that there seems to be little appetite for it at the moment. Barbara Erskine can do it but I can't think of anyone else at the moment who is writing mainstream ghost fiction. (everyone please inundate me with S/N authors who are selling right now)
Maybe we should start a movement? Set a trend. I'm up for it. How about it?
    Dee.
