Mikey Hough, orphaned at the age of seventy-three with a curious lightning-bolt-dent across the nearside wing of his Reliant Robin.

On a visit to the Louvre on afternoon he notices something strange about one of the portraits. It's an impressionist figure of a man wearing a skirt, underneath is the cryptogram, "W.C". He follows the signs, meeting a great many two-dimensional characters along the way (Da Vinci Cartoons, mostly). He finds himself in a room full of echoes, at once strangely familiar, yet at the same time, different...
