Every Best Gift - a tale of the ages

    Critique
“I marvelled at the inventive and educated mind at work, and the deft artistry of the writer telling her tale of the ages... the plotting is subtle and imaginative, the writing vivid and sophisticated…”
    Gene Mustain
author, investigative journalist, lecturer, Pulitzer Prize finalist 1981...

    Synopsis
You've seen Mel Gibson's movie 'Passion of the Christ'! Now read the book that nullifies the central premise of the film – the ‘divinity’ of Jesus of Nazareth.

It is an original and provocative work in that it not only names the biological father of Jesus and systematically dismantles the major church doctrines of the 'Trinity' and the 'Miraculous Incarnation', but also offers evidence that, aside from his extraordinary qualities of character, the New Testament writers regarded Jesus as a normal man in every respect.

It also reveals the reasons why such 'fabulous' doctrines were adopted subsequent to the crucifixion.
The work is presented in the form of a novel where forensics, intrigue, romance, betrayal, and the ultimate in conspiracy theories grip the reader from first to last.

Linkages have been made throughout between historical fact and the fictional events portrayed in the novel. The framework thus created sets the scene for a classic dénouement that integrates the entire work and postulates the existence of a centuries-old ‘conspiracy’, breathtaking in its scope and ambition, factual in essence but fictional in the detail.

The book won't be released for another month or so and if it's reviewed or 'noticed' at all, I certainly expect to receive a lot of negative responses, especially as it will be published first in the United States. I don't mean to sound anti-US, it's just that it's home to many fundamentalist minds and they have a very loud voice in the media.

The subject matter is explosive and will certainly 'upset a lot of people' so, just in case, I'm trying to gird myself against an onslaught of 'hate' mail.

factual in essence but fictional in the detail

    Isn't that contradicting?
Regardless, this idea is brilliant, vynnie. A novel that definitely had to be written.

Thanks for your encouraging comments. I see what you mean about the fact/fiction thing - perhaps I shouldn't have used the word 'detail'. Anyway, I'll try to explain what I meant.

The principal objective of this work was to re-humanise Jesus of Nazareth. I had all the evidence I needed but I was faced with the problem of how to get my message across to that vast readership who would never consider picking up a book of theology?

So I created a supposed work of fiction! Every character, every scene, every word was written to construct a vast, interlocking framework (fictional detail) into which various threads of evidence from many sources (factual essence) could be inserted yet appear to arise naturally through dialogue and circumstance.

    Thanks again

Vynnie, I wouldn’t worry too much about a negative reaction in the States. Any uproar creates interest. People will go looking for the book to see what all the fuss is about. I’ve seen The Passion of the Christ. I’d buy the book.

I followed your links back to the publisher. It appears that they specialise in Christian and Jewish publications. That must give you some confidence that it will sell without raising Hell…
