Hello all,

I am in urgent need of help. If any of you know how to answer my question, it would be much appreciated. I have a problem I am trying to find a solution to. There is a character in a certain picture who is standing in a way that is not exactly facing the reader but not exactly facing sideways either. He is facing front-sideways, or rather diagonally, or rather, angled towards the reader. But I don`t know how to describe the way he is standing in the third person. THe best I have been able to do so far is, "Sasuke towered over the grass, facing south-west." But "south-west" sounds very techinical and not natural to me. Any suggestions? P.S. Sasuke is the character dressed in blue. Here is the link.

Yes, it's awkward, isn't it. Some things to try might be:


facing me at an angle

standing half-sideways on

looking past my shoulder

not looking directly at me, but at... [whatever in the room seems appropriate that the reader already has mapped]

as if he were looking towards the... [ditto]

standing, his face in half-profile

I'm not sure whether this is a commonplace term or one mainly used by artists.

or half turned away, depending on the subtext of the passage.

Maybe it is a question of what you wish to convey by the way the person is standing:

Looking off into the distance
- maybe qualify it with a 'bemused smile'..
Or,
His gaze did not follow me around the room, but semed lost on some distant horizon.

He was standing in three-quarter profile {followed by description}.
