My latest short(ish) story, which I wrote to take a break from the WiP. Essentially, this is a work of High Fantasy, but I wanted to take some genre tropes and try to turn them on their head.
It was a very interesting process, not to mention slightly amusing.

As readers and writers of speculative fiction, we mainly focus on the heroes and villains in any given piece - the dramatic circumstances surrounding this fate or that, and I've always wondered what happens to the people who exist on the sidelines, the ones who are left behind, who we rarely get to hear about.

Thomas the Unexpected is my attempt to write about that.
