    Hey guys,

Some of you may recall reading a piece of non-fiction I posted a while back called 'Om'mee' - I know it wasn't a comfortable subject to read about let alone write about but I've decided to take the plunge and write a 'Factual Fiction' (?) novel about these and other experiences. The characters are all fictional but most of the scenes and events are real (and documented somewhere in some secret archives). This is the first and only chapter I've written so far - but I'm keen to start it on a solid footing so would find your comments and criticism most valuable.

    Many thanks.

    Nahed

If anyone has any idea what genre this would fit into - I would be grateful to hear it.

Thanks so much Elspeth. You've already helped so much with Invisible Bruises - I'm delighted that you'll be with me on this one also

Hey, Nahed - top of the most popular list - you must be doing something right!

Oooh, thanks for bringing that to my attention, Elspeth! :D

Although I must say, I don't understand this Most Popular List thing - as much as I value the comments already made on this first chapter (and I really do value them) there have been no other comments made. So what does being on top of the most popular list mean? That people read it, but didn't feel compelled either way to comment? Or they read it and didn't like it but didn't want to comment? Or they read it and liked it but didn't want to comment? Or they read it and liked it and didn't feel that they had to comment because it had all been said?

It's comments that improve a piece of writing. That's why we upload them isn't it? So that we can gauge people's response to our work? The Most Popular List doesn't help me in any way because 1. It doesn't tell me how many people actually read the work 2. Doesn't tell me how many liked it. 3. Doesn't tell me who many didn't like it. 4. Doesn't tell me how many just clicked on it - read the first line and decided it wasn't for them. 5. If one of the criteria that enables piece of writing goes on the most popular list is the number of comments one gets (which I believe it is) then this is surely encouraging people to concentrate on the most popular - which leaves other work out in the cold with hardly any comments.
In summary - it's comments that are needed and should be encouraged - not Most Popular Lists.

So to me, personally, the Most Popular List is totally unnecessary.

I bet you wish you never mentioned it now, Elspeth! But I really do appreciate the sentiment! Not having a rant at you, m'dear! Just having a rant au generale!

    Come on people...comment!

    Love always and forever

No probs, Nahed - I let you do the rant I was thinking - hence my post. (Aren't I manipulative!) Will we ever understand that list?!!

Another one of life's unanswerable questions right next to: Why Am I Here? = What Does the Most Popular List mean?

I appeal to the gods (of WriteWords) to answer our plea!

    Manipulative, Elspeth?? You????

I thought the most popular list had been dispensed with when the archive page was changed. I've looked without success - where is it?

    Nell,

on the archive page if you click on "fiction" or "poetry" in the list - it'll bring up the most popular list.

I thought it was gone too - but no such luck :D
