I've just uploaded this story to the archive (click here to go to it).

I originally wrote it some years ago, and have only just come across my original MS (which I thought I had lost). I can't remember the market I was targeting, but I do remember that it was rejected. In fact, I can't even remember when, exactly, I wrote it. The file had a datestamp of 12 Jan 1997, but I have a feeling I wrote it 5 years or so earlier than this.

I have made some tiny changes, just to improve the flow of some of the wording. Apart from that, it is unchanged. I still think it works quite well as a piece of gentle humour.

I've just managed to locate a notebook I used to use to record what I'd written and where I'd submitted it. It turns out I was right, above, about when I wrote this piece. I've got a note that I submitted it to Best on 30th September 1992.
