I'm thinking of starting up a writer's group in Walthamstow, London to help people writing poetry at a beginners and intermediate level. Do we have any members who are local to Walthamstow and would be interested in joining a small group to look at their poems and get feedback and short exercises (to help inspire us)?
Let me know.

Walthamstow? Isn't that where East17 came from?
-
Doesn't make it a bad place. I'm writing a play about Watford at the moment (long story..) and my research has overturned the astonishing fact that the pride of Watford is.... Geri Halliwell. Or Wham, depending on what age you are.
-
Lovely place, I nearly lived in Walthamstow village at one point, but that's another story...
-
So it could be a kind of Village People poetry group? Or is that a whole other world?
Keep us posted, Fevvers, because I work with some new writers in the east end who would quite happily travel up north a bit- unless you want to try and keep it a Writewords group?

I live in the East End Anna, we should all have a beano.
-
Good idea. A WW beano. I like it. It is a mid to long term plan anyway to have some sort of an actual (as opposed to virtual) event...

I think a get together would be good but as a please dont make it in London the rest of us poor sods have so much trouble getting there and us bumpkins are all scared of the big city
how about a write words weekend somewhere in the country
( Gloucestershire is wonderful )
It could be a social event with some discussion about writing etc.
-
ooh I 've opened a can of worms now haven't I? I suppose it all comes down to numbers really, but a weekend in the country sounds wonderful.

I wonder if David Bruce could investigate the possibilities I am sure we could find a country hotel that would ofer sensible rates and have suitable room or rooms for us to have some informal chats and discusions about writing. I dont think it should be too formal as it puts too much onus on the minority.
If itis possible it could be come a regular event perhaps half yearly and with in reason we could move it around the country south one half north the next just to even up the travelling.
Over to you site experts and the Experts Expert Mr Bruce

It's a great idea, specially the moving about bit, this could be the start of something...

What better place is there to meet than in sunny Staines?
What's wrong? Why is everyone coughing?
Seriously though, I wouldn't mind a meet up now and again, though how far I'm prepared to travel may be an issue as I don't drive, hate buses and coaches and find intercity train services to be massively over-priced...
But certainly food for thought.

sounds like you gonna reinact that old Blues number
you gonna be
walkin walkin
