I am interested to know, if we completely delete something we have uploaded, does the Webmaster still have a record of the date it was uploaded?
Thanks,
Casey

That is something I have wondered too.

You can always leave your work in the archive, and set it so it’s only visible to yourself. DB advises never to use the site as your only backup, but I don’t think there’s any limit to the amount you can leave up. I've got loads of stuff still there that no one else can see. And there’s the added bonus that you don’t lose the feedback you’ve had.
Go to My Writewords in the top right hand corner, (not your profile) find the piece of work in your list. Click on edit and then the dropdown box on ‘Who can view this?’ and tick ‘Only me’.

if I have to tell you once... ;)

Yeh, thanks Dee, i knew that (have followed your advice on that before)
No, what i wanted to know was - it's a hypothetical question - if i ever needed proof of when i wrote my work, does the Webmaster have archives of every time we upload work, even if we delete it??

The answer is no I'm afraid. I'm not sure how useful it would be in terms of 'proof' in any case.
-
Okay, thanks for that, David.

I suppose what i meant by 'proof' was that someone on the site said if you wanted to copyright eg your synopsis, you could post it to yourself and then keep this dated letter, unopened. So, i was just wondering if you held a dated archive of our uploads, and whether it would work in a similar way.
Cheers.

You could always have a website of your own with restricted access to achieve this. Plenty of free ones out there with more than enough free storage for a library of works to be kept there indefinitely.

Hmmm, that's an interesting idea, IB, cheers.

I don't think it would work if it ever came to court because electronic dating can be forged too easily. The best method is the physical script sent to yourself, but copyright is such a complicated issue that you'd probably go bankrupt with legal fees before anything could be decided.
