I know that being writers we shouldn't need to rely on graphics, but is there any chance we could have a few more smileys in the forums?
Another daft idea - when we get an email link to a thread, can you make it so that when you click you go to the last page on the thread, not the first. Some threads, like the Londong Bombing one go on for pages and pages and I'm always taken to page one.
Just an idea.

Hi Colin
I know what you mean about the treads that stetch over several pages. It works the other way too. I always click to the end of a thread, but then if I want to comment I have to go back to the beginning. Otherwise you can get a distorted picture. they do wander so.
Smileys, Hmmm.

Colin,
I'm with both of these. Going to the first page of a thread is so irritating...
And smileys...yay as many as possible, please!
I think they're fab - and to defend them from a writing point of view, we who use them DON'T use them as a way of NOT saying things, just as a way of re-inforcing what we DO say...very eloquently and proficiently, of course.
I also think they to a certain extent might help with the misinterpretations we often have of comments on political threads...they can diffuse what may be misread as serious/personal attacks

It's the main problem with internet chat and emails. Without smileys it can be difficult to determine sarcasm. It's been the starting point of many a flame war.
