I noticed that my Intro thread got hit by over a hundred people. Why? Only five people ever comment. I could e mail my chapters to about five people and be happy with their response -for good or bad, and they don't hold back.
Then I wouldn't have to pay to be on WriteWords. But, I believe that this is a community of writers, or at least people who love the written word. Please, identify yourselves, come forward - say what you like, say what you don't like. Be somebody as opposed to a ghost, a no...body.

Stop lurking and saying nothing. You may not be a writer but you are a reader.

If you read my work, tell me what you think. You are the market. You dictate.

Good point, Sion. Some of the intro threads get massive hits. Of course it doesn’t mean they’ve all read the work.

Somnambuant (got it right this time) is following a pattern I’ve noticed for novels on here. Inevitably, some of the initial readers drop off and you’re left with a hard core. Get them half-way through and they’ll stick with you because they enjoy reading it. At that point it becomes increasingly more difficult for new people to join in. I’m always wary of commenting on a novel I haven’t read from the beginning, for fear of ‘doing a Tez’. (remember him?)

What we don’t know, is the number of people who continue to read, without leaving comments. Perhaps we should have a word with DB to see if he can improve the system. Maybe we could have a series of voting buttons on the comment box for people who have read something but don’t have time/don’t feel able to write a detailed comment. I’ve often read stuff and not commented for various reasons, but I would hit a button to say I’d read it.

Dee, you beat me to it.
I was about to suggest the same exact thing, re: the voting button.

We could make a special critique section, that will generate the number of hits on a certain upload, but at the same time, is it possible to make the hit count regulated where once a member hits on a thread or upload, it only reads one hit. The way it is set up now, technically, I could click on a thread from my IP address 100 times and it will show 100 hits to that thread.

    Sion,
I read the first part of chap 14, and was waiting to comment, but I have to share this: I had a dream that one of your characters died of Fatal Familial Insomnia, weird huh?

Good point, Dee. And a good suggestion. And yes, I do remember the Tez incident...

Adam, are you serious?? Strange dreams you have, I'd have thought they'd be slightly more...ahem... stimulating.
