Are there no writers of biography or personal memoir on the site? The Memoirs group is currently moribund. Polished vignettes anybody, or amusing tales from childhood? Short pieces on the life of someone you know, someone famous, anyone.....? Anyone?

Richard,
I wrote and posted several parts of a Memoir just before Christmas, but have now taken all but one down to look at again in the light of feedback. I claim no specialist skill in the field, and have no idea what I'm going to do with it, was just writing about a part of my life...
If you're aching to read something of this nature it's on:
The Symmetry of Dreams
(hey, does that count as a Shameless Plug, Dee?)

<Added>OK, I lied. It's on:

I might just take you up on that Richard (although as you know from my efforts so far in the travel group, my staying power is not always good - swear I'll finish that travel piece one day).
I reckon my memoirs could help a few people to sleep.
Unfortunately my main problem is the upload limit...Since I'm active in the flash group and so have to post quite often, it's hard to take part in another group without that suffering.

Have never felt remotely tempted in this area as I generally find that other people are so much more interesting, and, as I tend very much to live 'in the moment', I don't actually have any coherent perspective on my own life!
Best,
Mike

Richard,
I love reading biographies, it's practically all I do read these days, and I've got some beauties. They are mostly about writers and poets, so very introverted of me. I find the idea of writing about pieces of my life toe-curling, and my own father wrote his autobiography in which I was the wayward daughter who disappeared into Africa and has never been heard of since. My great, great, and now dead, aunt wrote her autobiography and that was a whole different matter, - because she was concerned about the people she met and loved, rather than what she had done herself.
Although I suppose the first novel I wrote, not published, was autobiographical in the way that first novels are supposed to be. But I'm not in it, of course.

Becca,
Sounds much more than enough material for some bits of biog! 'Wayward daughter', 'disappeared into Africa', the great, great aunt with the interesting memoirs even the fact that your father wrote his own life story...Masses of highly intriguing stuff!
How can I tempt you to uncurl those toes and start spilling the beans? (Beans between toes?...a mite mixed but I'm sure you know what I mean)
Africa? the 'waywardness'?; give it a go!
Richard.

Richard,
I'll think about it. I've written three 'Africa' stories, but they're not about me. I could try writing about the night I was taken as the subject to the witchdoctor's house. In writing biography it's more like an account isn't it, so gets written in that more factual style?

Yes, and it seems like you won't have to make anything up! It'll be dramatic enough as is by the sound of things. Go for it!

Hello Richard,
I'm currently about 1/3 of the way through my first book, an account of my childhood, growing up in Israel.
I've just joined writewords for a trial to see how I get on and was toying with uploading my first page - just haven't been brave enough yet...
perhaps I'll pluck up the courage tonight and then post to ask you to read it!

Cassie,
Welcome to WriteWords!
Please do upload a sample of your writing. You can always tick the 'Be gentle' option but, as you will doubtless have seen, people are generally very considerate in their comments.
I look forward to reading about Israel.
Richard.
