    Hello y'all,
Dee got me thinking about the cover again. Derek, can we scan photos and send them to you, so you can put them on the web like you did with the cover designs?

    What photos?

Sion’s idea for the cover was a collection of old pictures (see Elspeth’s link). We agreed that we would all supply a few old photos – not necessarily of ourselves, they can be anything so long as there’s no danger of copyright infringement – and I think Derek was volunteered to collate them.

I’m off up to the attic now to dig out my photo tin.

Aha! I get it. Good idea!

I wonder if I can post mine? We don't have a scanner, and I have never figured out how to use them correctly anyway.... (Loud boos come from the techno section... Please, no rotten tomatoes!)

Ani, I don’t have a working scanner either but I was promised a new one for Christmas. It still hasn’t materialised but I live in hope!

I've got a great pic of me dressed as dracula for Halloween of '89. I must find it and scan it.

Errmmm.... I'm not sure I can collate them all and put them online sorry. What I volunteered for, was to create a website for the book once it's all ready. As soon as Sion has the cover design done, I will put up a brand new site of our own with the cover image and some history as well as perhaps a few snippets...just to help publicise us.

I think we should just send the photos to Sion and let him use the ones that he thinks fit best; he's done a great job of the look of the cover so I'm sure we can trust his judgement. I could put a few photos online but I think there'd be too many for me to keep up with...

I've been chasing printers by the way, and I'm waiting for replies and figures etc...

    Let's keep it rolling...

    Derek.

Yes Ani, I was half expecting to click 'send/recieve' on my email and wait for 3 days for the pile of piccys to come through .

I'm looking forward to doing a site for the book though...

Oh blimey, I've just seen this. I can't take large electronic files (not enough memory) but I can certainly scan prints. As I said in an earlier post, I am a bit nervous about dealing with originals - in case they get lost in the post, covered in wine or accidentally sold to the News of the World.

I do need about 50 images (so that I can select 20-30) to make this work. This means that you will either have to entrust me with the originals or preferably get copies made. I'd ask that every contributor think about 5 great pics (ranging in period and style). They should be simple, striking and...er in focus.

I'll also find a few (out of copyright) graphic images to put into the mix.

    Best

Sounds good Sion, thanks. Can't we set up something to share photo albums? Perhaps we'd each have to do it individually, then post the link??? Can anyone help me, here?

I think I'll probably try to make copies and post them to you, Sion.

El, I think the problem with putting albums on line or a collection of images online is that (correct me if I'm wrong Sion) Sion will probably need big, high quality images. Perhaps I'm wrong, if each image is going to be very small on the cover...

Sion, if you can give me more details on what kind of resolutions etc are needed? and if Jpegged files are good enough quality?, I will attempt to think of an on-line solution...

    Derek.

El, Have a look at this http://photobucket.com/ perhaps that's what you are looking for?

I imagine you just upload your photos to it and get a user name and pass word to view them. I expect Sion could grab the photos he wants from the site too if he has everyone's passwords...

I haven't tried it but it looks straight forward and the sample album contains pretty large, good quality pictures.

A quick google search reveals loads of these free album sites, this is just the first one I looked at.

    Derek.

Elspeth/ Sion, try linking to this (another site that offers better resolution pictures) http://dham.photosite.com/nevadapics/?page=1

It's just some of my holiday snaps. Try saving and viewing a photo to see if it's possible. If it is then Sion could use this to grab our pictures as he needs them...
