you can set 'who can see this' to 'group members only' - 'ww members only' or even 'only me' which is useful if you've subbed or had something accepted.

Tried this this morning with a piece I uploaded, but none of the settings seemed to have any affect.

(Not to be shamefully self-serving, but it's a flash piece: http://www.writewords.org.uk/archive/23915.asp if you want to comment.)

You need to upload it in a writing Group, Giaus. It's currently uploaded in the Archive where there aren't any 'group members' for it to be 'only visible' to.

    <Added>

although, presumably, you can set it to 'visible to WW members only.

NaoMim, I uploaded via my profile and tried all the group related settings I could find... but all to no avail. Is there an upload page somewhere else?

    <Added>

(It is set to WW members only at the moment. Though couldn't see any change for "Group members only" either.)

Can i just say, having been a member of WF (and hosting it) when it was very active, that there is nothing more satisfying fromt the point of view of the writer and reviewer, of seeing a piece uploaded again, having been rewritten and taken various bits of advice/suggestions on board.

Clearly you don't want the same piece uploaded ad infinitum, but i personally think you'll be missing out if you don't allow people to upload a piece just once more, to see if they are on the right track.

*scuttles away* - just sticking my oar in...

If you click on each group's home page you'll see a line under the group heading 'click here to join the group', then follow the instructions. Once you are a member of a group will will have the option of uploading it in that Group and making it 'visible to Group members only' in Owner Edit.

    Hi Optimist,

I've just put my name down. This appeals to me greatly because writing and critiquing is foremost on my agenda at this stage in my writing.

Are you OK with uploading work that has been critiqued and rewritten elsewhere - looking at pretty close to final draft work here. I see that people so far signed up are unlikely to have seen previous struggling versions.

Is the intention that we are limited to one a month upload? I don't mind either way, just need to get my head round.

Thank you for this totally excellent idea.

'click here to join the group'

    But I _am_ a member!
I guess it must have just been a cross over before my membership was confirmed or something similar.

    I'm in! Thanks NoaMim.

I don't know about limited, but I would have thought if you have more than one on the go at a time, then it makes the maths a bit rough so there's a possibility some things won't get reviewed.

Suck it and see, I guess.

Please don't scuttle away, Casey - you make a very good point

I think we were thinking in terms of a long extract - like 3 chapters - appearing over and over...

Ok - latest thoughts I think we need to keep this as flexible as possible bearing in mind it is the nature of things for people to drop in and out of different activities on WW as their priorities for their work change. So setting a monthly window for uploads would inhibit people choosing to join the group mid month or whenever...

How about we aim to upload and critique regularly - on an honour system - so a broad commitment to posting something new each month - in the sense of new to the IC group and commenting on 3 pieces by other members before posting again. If we all aim to keep in credit by 3 - 5 points - 1 credit for anything within the standard 2,500 word upload and 2 credits for up to 5000 words?

So when new members join they know they can post and then the expectation is they will comment on work by 3 other members before they post again?

If we go on the general WW courtesy of returning crits no one should be left out?

That way people can post as often as they like so long as they keep 'in credit' with their critiques?

So the pace of the group will be linked to level of activity but we use 1 upload/3 crits per month as a guideline for keeping the group dynamic?

I think part of the reason the flash group thrives is the weekly challenge - not all members take part every week but it is there as a framework.

I wouldn't have any problem with members dropping in and out of IC as and when they need feedback - so long as they give their 3 crits before moving on

Yes - absolutely! Great to have you onboard, Issy

Yes, that sounds good Sarah, about the honour bound thing - to do 3 crits before reposting. The title of the group says it, this is for intensive critting, no holes barred, get on with it group. If we should find someone uploading again and again without criting, then we simply don't crit their work any more.

I like the energy of this projected group - come on, wwers we need a 4th to make us live.

The converse being, it is incredibly frustrating to see redrafted work where the earlier comments have been ignored.

The writer's right - I don't always take the advise given, but in considering not to, highlights and brings thoughts and stuff in the subconscious to the fore. For me, for this reason, all critting is welcome.

I think even a comment you don't choose to take on board is helpful because it makes you think that bit harder - does this work - is it part of my intention - is that intention clear - it makes you question and if the question passes the test then there is a certain affirmation in that?

Also you may not accept a proposed solution but it gives you the incentive to think that bit harder and come up with your own - and again that is satisfying and helps you shift your work forward?

Yes, obviously it is completely up to the writer to decide what to take on board and what not. I'm just thinking about the question of reloading reworked extracts for more critique.
Unless it's a drastic rewrite, I think Sarah's suggestion of "posting it in the archive or one of their home groups and putting a link on the intensive critique forum saying - I've re written x - if anyone has time to take a look?" is a good one, otherwise you risk your fellow members suffering from crit-fatigue.
