The Spectator is running an essay competition that could provide a great opening if journalism is your bag. The subject is Immortality, the length a maximum 1200 words, the closing date Jan 28th. It's in conjunction with Montblanc, and the prize is a top of the range pen and publication in The Spectator, which, for all its current shenanigans, is beautifully written and presented whatever your political bent. The ten finalists get to meet all the various section heads so get networking:-) Details from Claire Eaves, 020 7405 1706 or email claire@spectator.co.uk.

They say: "The Montblanc/Spectator Award is intended to promote clear and unpretentious writing. The prize will be given to the essay that the judges deem to be the most thought-provoking and best written."
I take it they're unlikely to accept anything with the words 'Liverpool' & 'grief' in the same sentence :-)

That would be immorality rather than immortality, Jon:-) sxx
