Wow - that's fantastic! (I mean the cover idea). It is absolutely nothing like any of the ideas I had, and it's probably all the better for it! I can't imagine walking past this in my local bookshop and not stopping and wondering what it was - very eye catching. Nice one Derek.

Hi all, Glad people seem to like the cover idea.

It's not finished art, just an idea. The words inside his coat don't say anything at the moment (just words words words).

If people want to go with this idea and want me to do more work on it then I will. Just let me know.... (I wouldn't do much more than tidy it up and play with the colours/ type face etc... Oh and I may have to change his face a bit, because he still looks a little like a character I did for some other work.)

I'm an Artist but I haven't done a book cover before so I'd also need to find out about what size/format the art needs to be...if anyone knows about that stuff..gimmee a shout.

I can't imagine anyone not being in favour of this design. Dare I ask, would there be any cost to you for this? You can always have the obligatory Cover Design by ....

The book size is likely to be 197mm by 127mm. Artwork can be emailed (Jpeg or whatever, showing my ignorance now) or provided on disk direct to printers.

We would need something more salesy on the front than 'A collection of ...' because this is UNIQUE! I've got a collection of short stories called 'All Hail The New Puritans' which has a quote on the front 'If you care about writing, you must read this book' - The Times. Worked on me. Wouldn't something like that be nice?

Hi Shay, No I wouldn't charge for this ... I'm happy to be a part of it, and it'd be great for me to have my stories and my artwork in the book. I can only do so much though...so as long as everyone is reasonably happy with what we already have, I'm 100% happy to do it.

Wording for the front cover... I don't know, I haven't thought about it, but I agree it needs to be special. The words I put on were just for the sake of putting words on...We need to bat ideas about and decide before I do the finished art.

Shall we start a seperate forum thread for the book cover art and wording? - or it may get in the way of other things on this thread.

I'm not involved in this, and I'm sure you don't need my moral support, but I'm offering it anyway! This is a great idea, and if enthusiasm counts for anything, it'll be a great success. Derek's cover design is fantastic....exactly right; how can you go wrong? Good luck - you all deserve some.

Yeah, we can do, Derek. I'll let you start it if that's OK. We need to see if we can exploit the contacts that some of our site experts have in terms of cover comments and copy.
