Just a quicky for what it is worth I atteneded the artsworcs workshop artwords on staurday which encouraged us to play with images and words, something I have been playing with for some time.

It was a very enjoyable an dinteretsing day and wel worth the cost

my reason for posting this is two fold

1 because I always think despite the publisity events such as these are rarely adequately supported which ultimately means they tend sadly to not be repeated I applied to attend a similar 3 dya course at Birmingham University which wa sadvertised on WW and the course wa scancelled as only 3 people enrolled for it very sad

2 also to alert people to another event run as part of this festival tomorrow tuesday 17th ARTBURST 7.45 till late an evening of anarchy and creative chaos held at Marrs Bar Worcester only a £5.00

ARTBURST sounds fantastic. Just wish it was taking place down in my finger of the world....

I had applied and paid for a workshop in April and May which was, sadly, cancelled due to lack of interest. It was a writing excavation (or something to that effect) workshop tied in to D M Thomas' new play "Hell Fire Corner", which was brilliant. (He's my writing tutor's husband!)

Ani that is sad the excitemnt and expectation of a course which is then cancelled.

I always feel cheated that so many courses are run in London an dthe big cities and that the rural areas seem to be so neglected when in fact there is so much talent in the rural areas. I appreciate it may be about economics but surely creativity should not be about money but about access and opportunity

Is the play about the WW1 Hell Fire Corner ?

'Hell Fire Corner' in WW1 parlance was a cross roads just out of the town of Ypres which the Germans had bracketed fairly well with artillery and machine guns so when you got close you went like Hell to get round it, The Allies put up large cloth screens so the german spotters couldn't see what was going on.but avery dangerous place but logisitically very important as there was no other way to get to certain spots on the front line.

    take care

    David,

The Hellfire Corner of the name is actually a geographical name around Redruth, along the north coast of Cornwall. However, I believe it is set around World War I. It's mainly about rugby and mining in the beginning of the 20th century. It was fantastic production. I understood that the hope was that the play would be picked up in London, but I don't know what's happening at this point. I believe it was the first play by D M Thomas.

And I agree with you about how little seems to happen out here in the far reaches from London. Here there are rare workshops. No real literary scene that I've been able to find.

Though we do have a literary magazine called Scryfa, which is very nice. Have you heard of it? A lot of nice Cornish writing in there.

Sorry if I started to ramble.
