I'm having real problems with the WriteWords site. I've got broadband, and it's slow at the best of times, but I can access most websites I need - except Writewords. It's taking up to three minutes to load a page. I get the header with the orange tabs immediately, but then it locks up for ages. Anyone else having this, or have had this and worked out a way of solving it?

It can be slow, but I don't myself find it more often slow than any other site. Round here the Net's always slower around 4ish, which you can interpret as local schoolchildren getting home and going onto MSN, and with individual sites I sometimes blame the MidWest getting to work (WW's servers in Texas, I think?) or some such other voodoo-like thing... Typepad, which I use for my blog, can almost grind to a halt at some moments, and be lightning-quick at others, with no visible reason.

It shouldn't be that slow in comparison to other sites, Colin. Have you contacted DB about it?

I've been finding it slower than usual - but it varies according to which page. The Lounge is the slowest on my computer by quite a long way.

Same here, Poppy. Lounge is very slow.

I find Group Forums the slowest of all.

Just tried Group Forums, susie, and you're right it's really slow. I just use 'Recent Posts' which is really quick and the bottom half is Group Forums.

I find the same, Colin, often around 6pmish - i log out and go in again, that sometimes helps.

I think my problem is more to do with my computer than the site or the speed of the internet - it's like it's waiting for something, then times out after 90seconds or so, then the page appears in on single chunk. Annoying as hell, makes the site almost impossible to use. I've tried resetting all manner of security thingies and internet options - even tried using Opera instead of IE. Gaaaghhhh!!!!

Found the problem. I haven't seen google ads on this site for months, but I knew they were still there, so I tried to find out what had been installed to hide them. Found the little part of my computer - well hidden - which did that and found a few nasty little spyware things. Deleted them, came back to WW and the pages load instantly.

Hooray. The site was almost unusable before.
