Thanks - I've still not managed to replicate the problem. Did the problems happen spaced out over the three hours or close together? Do you remember whether you had posted something before the first problem occured?

As promised: I just went from the archive to read a comment from Becca to me, and found the ‘trial membership expired’ message underneath it instead of the usual comment box. I’ve been pretty active on the site for a good hour; reading, commenting, switching pages, so it’s not, in this case, because I’ve ‘timed out’.

As an experiment, I went back to Exit 22 by Jumbo, which I’d already commented on and then to the Winter House C13 (my own piece) and, while the ‘expired’ message isn’t there, nor is there a comment box.

I’ve also checked on the forum threads. There is no owner edit option.

So I guess I’ll have to log out and log in again.
