Several members have alerted me to an intermittent problem on the site in which paid up members receive the "Your Trial Membership has expired" notice. I've looked into it, but have not managed to replicate the problem myself. Could members let me know in as much detail as possible when this happens. As I understand it, it seems to be just "sometimes, after having made a comment on work". Has anyone seen it as soon as they log on to the site, or is it always only after making a comment. Any pointers gratefully received.
Oh, and the temporary cure if it happens to you is to log out and back in again.

Hi David, it's happened twice to me over the last week to ten days, in which time I've made several comments.
In each case it has been after making a comment on a piece, and as of yet, in no other situation. I'll let you know in more detail if it occurs again.
All the best,
Ben

I've had this message a couple of times, but as with Ben, it has only happened to me after posting a comment, not on any other occassion.
I'll be in touch if it happens again

did you manage to sort out a system notifying members when their paid membership is due to expire or is that one to come

Same here David. It seems to happen at random when I'm submitting a comment on someone's work. Up to now the comment has always been accepted. Logging out and back in again clears the problem. Glad I'm not the only one!

Dee - when you say submitting a comment, does the message appear after you submit it, or is it already there at the bottom of the page when you are trying to make a comment?
Many thanks for your help.

Hi David,
The message pops up at the bottom of the screen after I've clicked on 'submit'.
I don't know if this is connected but I quite often have a problem when I'm reading work - even my own sometimes! I get a message saying it is only visible to WW members. I'm trying to remember when it happens but my mind has gone blank! So no change there...
It's always when I'm trying to return from one page back to another.
Cheers
Dee.

It began to happen to me immediately after my actual membership expired and I came back to the site. I was able to make one comment without a problem, then after that every piece I looked at had 'Trial Membership Expired' at the bottom. I wasn't just the new pieces either - I went back a week or so and the notice was still there. I don't normally log out as such, but the following morning things seemed OK until it happened again. BTW, it would be good to have notice of imminent expiry of either sort, as I felt as though I'd suddenly been sent to Coventry.

I've just commented on HollyB's latest piece and afterwards was unable to 'Owner Edit' an error, neither was there a comments box at the bottom of the page. I had to log out and log in again.

I've just had a problem similar to Nell's.
I commented on a piece of Dee's work The Winter House - Chapter 7 (great read, if you have the time!). I submitted the comments and when the page refreshed itself there was no 'Owner Edit' option on my comment, and no boxes below my comment to add further comments.
But there was no 'Your Trial Membership...' error message and neither did I have to log out and log on again to continue. The top of the page and all of the various options were still live.
Hope this helps.

Having posted that last comment I see there is no 'Owner Edit' facility on it.
Also, in the top right hand corner of the screen, where it says Logged in as jumbo, there is no 'View Profile' option (isn't that normally in the bottom left of that pink box?)
Instead there is a Full Membership option which if I select it, takes me to a page where I can upgrade to 'Full Membership.'
Best of luck with this little gremlin, David!

The loss of the 'Owner Edit' facility and the change in the pink box has just happened to me again having posted a comment on Word'sWorth's work.
I've been logged in for a while and I wondered if there is something 'timing out' that is causing the problem. It's about 23:53 now. I don't know if you can tell what time I logged on, but I must have been here for at least an hour (I think).
All the best

I’ve been having that problem ever since I joined. I assumed it was some kind of ‘time out’ system and just logged back in. But then I started getting the ‘your temporary membership has expired’ messages and realised while talking about it that not everyone has the problem.
David – on the this piece is available to members only’ problem, I’ve worked out when it happens (because it happened last night!)
I’m reading a piece of someone’s work and decide to check their profile or check the archive to see if there are any new comments then, to return to the piece I was reading, I click the ‘back’ button and I get the ‘sorry, bugger off’ message.
Hope this helps,
Dee.
ps - Jumbo, thanks for the shameless plug!

You're welcome!!

I stay logged on for hours and never have the problems mentioned hope that helps but of course may confuse the issue even more
The only time I did have a problem was when my membership had expired oops.

Hi David,
I’ve been logged on for just over three hours tonight and have had to log back in four times. Once I was told my trial membership had expired, once I posted a comment in a thread and there was no owner-edit option, and the other times – this is new - I was trying to comment on uploaded work but there was no comment box option.
