It would be great to get some feedback from members how they view the speed of the site - please post two figures:
    1) How fast on a scale of 1-10 writewords feels compared to other sites (1 is the slowest 10 is the fastest)
    2) How fast it feels compared to how it's felt in the past (if you're a long term member). Again post lower numbers if you feel it's slower than it used to be, or higher numbers if you feel its faster

    Thanks for your input

Not sure about numbers but I find that in the main it is quite quick but that the recent posts thing (3?) and the searches (1) take FOREVER - I don't know if that is my computer or what. But that is another reason why I hate using outside forums to the lounge - and I don't want to have to trawl through them one-by-one either.

Searches in particular I find impossible to use. I know other people say they are easy to use, but I find it takes too long and is very cumbersome.

But speed in the groups (8) and the lounge (10) I would say is very good.

I don't think I've noticed it being slower than lots of other forums - certainly not consitently.

Recent Posts is fine for me - no worse than clicking on any forum - and I must say, I'm only aware of speed as an issue when the whole site's suddenly very slow, which I always assume is just the servers having a busy moment. Seems to be in the evening, mostly, which fits if they're in Texas or wherever.

It's true that searching's not very nippy, but I don't do that very often.

Perhaps it would be more honest to say that the speed has improved because we no longer get the extra pages when we click on Recent Posts.
I hope people will refrain from posting multiple announcements about the same thing across the forums (like Poetry or Flash), as that will push the other topics off the main page so they are nolonger accessible unless we search through the individual forums, or someone posts something in each one to bring them back to the top of the pile.
Or maybe I'm the only one who uses this facility to see what new subjects/gossip is being posted in the writing groups

I'd say about 5 or 6 - so average, and no problem that I can see.

Occasionally it seems to stall briefly, but that is just as/more likely to be my broadband than this site.

I've only been a member for 6 months so can't really comment on how it's changed - it doesn't seem to have done in that time.

It's hard to call sometimes slow, sometimes quick. It does tend to stick quite often when loading the Lounge or the Private Members. This is particularly painful when the gf notices that once again I've loped off to WW when I should be doing something else!

thanks everyone for these useful comments. I'd noticed the sticking thing too - now time to hunt for the reason! Keep the comments coming though.

I have to say I've not noticed anything out of the ordinary for the type of site, if anything I'd say it was faster than most, and believe me I'd let you know if I did think something was amiss

It seems to be quicker than it was a few months ago, to be honest - which is good news! I think it compares okay to other sites I use.

Sorry, but I'm hopeless with the numbers thing ...

I'd say it compares favourably to other forums I go on.

Sorry, just to add: As a long term member, I've never had cause to think 'ooh, this forum is slower than it used to be.' or anything. I don't have any issues with the speed at all.

Hehe, maybe writers, on the whole, just aren't good with the numbers thing.
