I have to say that most of the changes are for the better or don't worry me but i also work on the premise if it aint broke don't fix it

in view of the general agreement that something needed doing with the points system I would have thought that would have been a more appropriate change

    but c'est la vie

What's the problem? It's like the fiction/poetry changes, you can still find the old topics, and it not only looks tidier and more professional - good presentation always - but it means the more writerly topics that are likely to interest new members are on the front page. You'll love it if you just relax and try it!

Nope I don't care much for it either. If you want a handpicked set of topics then create a link to it and not vice versa.

This is lame with a capital LAME.

If the people who set this site up and decide on how they're going to design things, that's fine with me. It doesn't interfere with why I'm here, to have my work crited and to do the same. None of the changes have ever made the slightest bit of difference to that.
    Becca.

If the people who set this site up then decide on design changes is what I mean.

Why are people challenging the person who makes all this possible for us?

Becca...why are we challenging him? I'm not challenging him - I've got nothing against David. This isn't a personal thing! But just as he has made this possible, I've paid a contribution to make this possible, and if I don't like the new look of something, then I expect to have a right to say so.

Just like you have a right to your opinion to either approve of the new look or not care either way as long as you get your work critted, I also have a right to express my opinion.

I like this site. I wouldn't be here if I didn't but as a user of this site (a paying member) I would appreciate it to consider my needs and my comfort getting around the site and yes, even considering my opinion.

I'm sorry if that doesn't appeal to some who feel that we should just sit back and accept whatever is given to us. Your way of thinking doesn't appeal to me either. So let's just agree to disagree, but please don't ever suggest that I shouldn't dare question somebody's decision to do something that does in the end affect me as much as you.

    With all my respect

The edit function seems to be missing from this.

Just to say that I've moved on from this. From past experience it appears to be futile to express a contrary opinion on this site. I don't want a slanging match to ensue. This will be my last comment on the subject.

Sorry, I hate this, have VERY, VERY strong objections to the whole way of thinking behind it. Does what we want not count at all, are we never to be consulted or asked before things are changed by some Almighty decree? We only pay to keep the site running after all.

Interesting threads? Important threads? How the Hell does this get decided? The proper way is to let members decide, ie threads that are getting looked at most and contributed to most are obviously the ones that are interesting and important.
Oh, sorry, that's what we used to have before....when 'intimidating' and obviously inappropriate things got through...

I think this stinks to high heaven and I am seriously considering my future here. I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the whole RLG affair, and however prettily the language in that debate was used, I think we all know what the real thinking behind it was. Here we go again.
I very much doubt that I can remain a "member" of a site, or should I say a "community"(?), in which those that administer the thing see fit to behave in such a high-handed manner.

I agree with you Nell, reading the comments reminds me of being on jury service, and Iv'e done it three times. 'going around in circles' Suck it and see folks, then make your comments. Don't turn this site into a committee atmosphere.

Personally, i couldn't care less. Perhaps by not consulting individuals before every action the 'institution' could seem to be telling us whats what, but in some cases it really isnt a big problem. However, i find some of the reactions to this latest change quite upsetting. I hate negative feelings at the best of times, it very bad to have them in my creative environment.

I don't feel that the current changes have restricted me in any real way. I am still able to read all the posts and thats the main thing. I also liked the previous layout because i could keep up to date just by clicking on 'forum'. I'm sure that if a large number of members feel that the old layout worked better, and provide reasons for this, then the administation will review the situation. Just look at the writers archive, isnt that exactly what many people asked for?

Also, i have to say that, if anything, arguments like this are the things that make me want to leave the site. Maybe that wouldn't matter too much because i'm not a 'regular', but as a writer i feel i would lose out.

I hope this problem can be sorted out sensibly.

    David

I'm happy to give the new layout a go - but it does appear that we've lost something here! Given the choice, it's not the way I would organise the Forum.

And the perception abroad that there is now some form of 'editorial' choice being made here is very unfortunate indeed!

But let's try it, and see how it goes.

We've introduced a new look to the forum home page today. The page will now show a selection of highlighted threads selected by the team at WW.

Regular users will have noticed that as the site has grown the forum has become busier and busier. Displaying the most recent threads on the home page has often meant important threads got lost, quickly disappearing off the home page. This new layout allows us to give focus to interesting threads and hopefully will also re-focus each 'sub-forum' on its intended subject.

    Hope you like it!

Lets get down to brass tacks.

My Forum topic is that WW has many exclusive submissions, both stories and comments, which makes this mere member an outsider with either no access, or no chance to comment.

    Go to http://www.writewords.org.uk/forum/44_11788.asp
if you want to follow it. It has currently 386 hits since I put it there, on the 26th of this month, but it has been conveniently buried by this new technique.

386 emebers are interested, but the powers that be have buried my suggestions very quickly.

    This is censorship.

JohnK. (I wonder if this comment will survive?)

    Nahed,
Since I haven't suggested you shouldn't question somebody's decision about something that affects me as much as you, I'll take it to mean should I ever be tempted to do so in the future, correct? Well I'm happy with that idea.
    Becca.
