Interesting to learn from the Sophie Grabol interview how the writer used the Mike Leigh approach, getting the input of the actors as to the character they wanted to play, what happens, etc. Clearly it worked brilliantly.

Couldn't agree more. Lots of action is the antithesis of suspense. A much more measured approach builds it up so much better - witness the likes of A Perfect Spy, Tinker Tailor and even (when you think about it) The Day of The Jackal.

I used to work in Denmark several weeks each year and watching The Killing I kept recognising archetypal (but not stereotypical) characters that I used to meet during my travels, particularly the Mayor (I can think of four instances of him), Theis, Troels and Rie (whose equivalent whom I knew was called Lie).

All the same, for a repeat I think I'll wait until the boxed set's below ten quid in Tesco. It's a bit of a steep investment at the moment.

Shit, no more Mad Men???? I didn't know that. I have the latest series on the DVR, saved up for when hubby buggers off somewhere and I can hole up on the sofa with wine and choccies and indulge myself senseless.
