I'm not sure how much this film would appeal to those who never heard The Doors' music or came under the spell of The Lizard King. But if you were a fan then you will enjoy this. There is a lot of new material - snippets of Jim going mental in concert and a lovely shots of him at 19, being filmed for a piece at Film School, diving through the desert. The film is also a retelling of 60's and early 70's history - it's all there from the Kennedy assassinations through to the Civil Rights movement and the Vietnam War and the Cultural Revolution. Johnny Depp does the voiceover. Such is Jim Morrison's cool status that the modern day King of Cool wanted to be part of the film. Much fairer to his girlfriend than the Val Kilmer film - which showed her as a Bad Influence - she seems have been a person who wanted to get him on track rather than pull him off it. The other band members come across as having been patient, kind and caring about Jim, but ultimately clueless when it came to knowing how to deal with his drinking and his ego. The Doors music is just as great now as it was then I have to say.
