Lol or 'don't you go down in that cellar, dad'

I found that scene incredibly unsettling. McCarthy has a good way of taking you by surprise. I liked No Country for Old Men too and now I want to read some more. Any recommendations?

Agreed about that scene and the counterpoint of the other cellar they find, full of good things. It's funny though, despite the impact of that book I have no desire to read any of his other ones. I suspect that was his magnum opus and I don't need to know, or feel I can already imagine, what came before. Everyone raves about Blood Meridian though.

Thanks I'll check it out, though I do get the idea that his other books are more conventional thrillers. The Road was indeed a work of genius and a tale of contrasts. A special experience.
